Liberotus 1.4: A better way to add books to Grimmory

A book you find on your iPhone should be easy to get into your library. Version 1.4 introduces Bookdrop support in Liberotus, giving you a complete path from a file in Files or Safari to a book in your Grimmory library.

Meet Bookdrop

You can now send EPUB and PDF files to Grimmory without going back to a computer. Open the Bookdrop panel in Liberotus and tap Upload Book to choose a file. You can also send a compatible file to Liberotus from the iOS share sheet or Files.

Once you’ve chosen a file, Liberotus adds it to a persistent upload queue. Upload Status shows its progress and tells you if it is waiting for a connection, has been paused by iOS, or needs attention. Uploads can continue in the background, and Liberotus reconnects to an upload when you reopen the app. If one fails, you can retry it; you can also cancel an upload or clear the local queue.

Uploading is the first step. The file then appears in Bookdrop Review, where you decide whether it should join your Grimmory library. You can see the title and author Grimmory detected, along with a cover preview when one is available. If the details need work, tap Edit to correct the title, subtitle, authors, publisher, publication date, series, series number, or language.

When everything looks right, tap Import. Liberotus shows that the import is in progress, confirms when Grimmory accepts it, and refreshes your library. You can discard a file you don’t want to keep.

For example, you can download an EPUB in Safari, send it to Liberotus, check its upload, fix its series information in Bookdrop Review, and import it into Grimmory—all from your iPhone.

More ways to share your books

Version 1.4 also adds Share Book for EPUBs already in Liberotus. Open a book’s details and use the iOS share sheet to send its file to another app or person. If the EPUB is available on your server but has not yet been downloaded, Liberotus can prepare it for sharing first.

A more dependable workflow

We spent much of this release tightening the steps around Bookdrop. Imports now give immediate visual and haptic feedback, so you can tell that tapping Import worked. Liberotus checks Grimmory’s response before declaring success, keeps a book in review when its import fails, and explains when a timeout leaves the result uncertain.

We also fixed iCloud file uploads, repeat file handoffs, queue cleanup, discard behaviour, and cases where an upload could appear stuck. Upload errors now offer clearer guidance about connection and sign-in problems.

Beyond Bookdrop, we’ve clarified the trial and subscription screens and prepared Liberotus for Xcode 27 and the iOS 27 SDK while retaining iOS 26 support.
